Senior Football

Three goals by David Finn and an injury-time goal bound block by half back Des Kelly helped Bray overcome St Patrick's by 3-08 to 1-13 in their Division 1 League game in Bray on Friday night.  In blustery conditions both sides were guilty of some early untidy play. A well-taken point from Niall McGraynor got Bray off the mark, unfortunately their momentum was some what disrupted when full back Conor Power had to be replaced by Geoff Morrissey.  The next 10 minutes or so proved difficult for the home side as Pats hit three unanswered points. Bray battled their way back into the game with some good scores, the pick of them a long range free out of the hand by Johnny Kinch. Then just when it appeared the home side was getting on top, another injury forced key midfielder Ronan Cunningham to depart just before half time. However, much to Bray's credit they continued to carve out chances and finished the half leading 1-06 to 0-03.  A point for Pats just after the restart was immediately cancelled out by a Ross McAnaspie point but a well-worked goal by the visitors left it a three-point game. By this stage Mark Lennon was operating in the half forward line and in a man of the match performance was giving the Pats defenders a torrid time. Finn's second goal and a Niall McGraynor point deservingly had the home side in the ascendancy but again the 2012 County Champions responded well with three points. Substitute Conor Flannery came on and immediately had an impact with a point and when Finn coolly finished off an excellent move with his third goal the two points look secured.  However, some careless play from Bray saw the visitors cut the lead to two points thereby setting up a dramatic end to the game.  There were some impressive performers for Bray on the night particularly in young centre back Daire Lohan and corner back Mark Lenihan.

Bray Emmets: Paul O'Keeffe, Cormac Martin, Conor Power, (Geoff Morrissey) Mark Lenihan, Ross McAnaspie (1) (Lee Brandon), Daire Lohan, Des Kelly, Luke Benson, Ronan Cunningham, (Mark Nolan) John O'Keeffe, Johnny Kinch (1) Stephen McNicholos, (Conor Flannery (0-1)) David Finn (3-0), Niall McGraynor (0-3), Mark Lennon.

Ladies Intermediate League 2014

Bray's first game of the league was played in Blessington last Sunday Morning 9th March. We had a very good turnout of players, and everyone was eager to play. Blessington were stiffer opposition from Newtown in our Cup game. We played with the wind in the first half but were unable to notch up enough points to make playing easier in the second half. Blessington started very well in the second half and made up the difference quiet easily. Bray had to defend well to keep this game from ending in a defeat. In the end we settled for the draw and praise to all the girls for a very enjoyable game of football.  The Score was Bray 3 – 4 Blessington 2 – 7

U 14 Football County Feile

The U14 footballers qualified for the next group stages of the 2014 Football Feile by comfortably winning their group yesterday in Ballinakill in fine but windy conditions. Eleven teams registered for the competition and Bray Emmets were drawn in Group 2 with Derry Gaels and AGB.

Their first match was against Derry Gaels and playing with a stiff breeze in their favour they came flying out of the blocks. Early goals from Ben Kearney and Mick O'Gara got the team off to a great start and they never looked back after that. They ran out comfortable winers on a scoreline of 7-9 to 0-1.

Highlights of the game were full forward Mick O'Gara's four goals, the work of his full forward line partners Jordan Temple and MacDara O'Mhideach, Andrew Conway's power house display in midfield and the industry of the half backline of Joe Phelan,Davey Maloney and Rory Whelan who excelled in his new role at centre back and also a magnificent long range point from Cian Lohan.

In the match vs AGB Bray Emmets had to play the first half into a stiff breeze. They played their best half of football of the day during this period moving the ball at pace and putting togethor some fine passing movements – a testimony to the hard work they have put in under coaches Niall McGraynor, Rory Breslin and Paul Barry.

The match finished 4-11 to 1-1 in Bray's favour. Highlights of this game were the brilliant corner back play of Andrew O'Brien with solid support from Sid Hunt and Donnchadh Griffin in the full back line, the dominance of Ciaran McKay in midfield and Darragh Rochford's five points from play in the first half.

Every player in the panel for the day contributed to fine performance. We will train twice this week before the next round next Saturday in Ballinakill.

U14 Hurlers

The U14 hurlers faced Oliver Plunketts on Wednesday night, 12th March in Páirc Emmet Bhré. The Navan Road men were first division last year, so their quality was evident from the earliest clash of

the ash. However, it was Brí Chualann who drew first blood with Rory Lambe scoring a self-assured goal. Fine points followed from the all-action Andrew Conway and Joe Phelan.

The second-half began on an even keel, but the momentum was leaning in favour of the visitors. Their two goal raid proved the difference between the sides, despite a sublime score from team captain, Ciarán McKay. David Maloney gave a fine performance for the hour. The final whistle saw Plunketts four points to the good.
