Dublin Airport Authority Kick Fada – Saturday, 14th September, 2013
The annual All-Ireland Kick Fada competition, now in its 14th year, will take on an international flavour in 2013 to coincide with The Gathering and appropriately, the Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) will act as main sponsors. Competitors from Britain, Europe, Australia, Canada, and the United States will be among those flying into Bray for the 14th September event while in the National All-Ireland Kick Fada competition, kickers from all over Ireland will take part in the hope of succeeding last year’s winners Damien Sheridan (Longford) and Serena Hannon (Dublin). Registration for participants is free while there is also no admission charge for people attending on the day. The event begins at 3.00 p.m. with the Ladies Competition, followed by the Men at 4.00 p.m. Off the pitch, we will host a barbecue at 6.00 p.m. followed by music in the Clubhouse from 8.30 p.m. on. In between, we will also host a special presentation to victorious Bray Emmets teams of the past. In addition, the Club will also be announcing shortly the next inductee to our Kick Fada Hall of Fame. Members are asked to keep this date free as we are hoping to attract a large crowd this year.
Update: Football Championships
It’s a big week for both of our Mens Football teams as they line out in their respective championships. On Tuesday, 13th August, the Seniors play St. Mary’s at 7.00 p.m. in Aughrim. This match is of course a replay after the sides played out a draw of 10 points apiece last week. Jack Sheedy’s men will be disappointed not to have closed out the original fixture but will take solace from the fact that they now know they are capable of winning the tie. The losers will face Rathnew in the SFC Qualifiers.
The Junior Footballers also have a tough assignment when they host Avoca at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday, 15th August in Páirc Emmet Bhré. This is the first group game but Bray Emmets will be keen to get the competition off to a good start, especially with the fixture at home. Support for both teams is most welcome.
The Minor Hurlers had a superb win when they travelled to Glenealy on Wednesday evening, 7th August. This, of course, was a repeat of last years County Final when Emmets emerged victorious but with Glenealy leading by 2-5 to 0-7 at half-time, it looked like the result would be different this time around. However, the Bray lads turned it around in the second half and with the sides level with one minute to go, Daire Henderson caught a puck out and split the posts for the winning point. Final Score: Glenealy 2-10 Bray Emmets 2-11
Scorers: S.Lohan (0-2); E.McCormack (0-3); P.Doyle (0-2); D.Henderson (0-2); M.Thompson (0-1); M.Lennon (2-1).
