‘The Lie Of The Land’ by PJ Cunningham
PJ Cunningham is well known to all members for assisting whenever help is needed and as a result, he has filled many roles within the Club. However, by day, PJ is a journalist, publisher and editor. His latest book ‘The Lie Of The Land’ is an account of the lives, loves, hatreds, failings and greatness of ordinary people told mainly through the social history of actual events. The stories are evocative, insightful, funny and sometimes heart-breaking, framed as they are between a heritage of alcoholism, arranged marriages, religious beliefs and personal tragedies.

‘The Lie Of The Land’ shines a sometime harsh, sometime soft, light on family and community relationships as they juggled with legacies of loyalty and feuds handed down through generations. Overhanging the landscape at all times were the religious fears and taboos which had common roots between the superstitious and the supernatural.

‘The ‘Lie of the Land’ is a unique slice of modern history as well as fiction, capturing the drama of several generations as they agonised at the crossroads between old and modern Ireland. This way of life now largely accessible only in the minds and hearts of those who lived and knew The Lie of the Land. The book is available in all good book shops or alternatively, further information is available from the publishers – Ballpoint Press Ltd: 01-2962272 / 086-8217631 or ballpointpress1@gmail.com.

Mermaid Arts Centre - Special Offer
The Mermaid Arts Centre, located just off Main Street, has made a special offer available to members of Bray Emmets GAA Club. Census/GAA Stories (as part of the Yarn Festival) sees social and cultural historian Mark Duncan trace the early development of the GAA in Bray and Co. Wicklow and set it against the wider Irish sporting, cultural and political experience of the pre-World War I period. This talk will take place on Saturday, 16th November and the admission fee for Bray Emmets members is €8 (normally €10). Bookers can avail of this offer by telephone (01 272 4030) or by dropping into the Mermaid Arts Centre but these concessions are not available online.

Match Report: Minor Hurling
After negotiating the Group phase of the competition with relative ease, the Bray Emmets Minor Hurlers resumed their championship campaign with a comfortable semi-final victory over Glenealy on Sunday, 10th November in Aughrim. The Reds opened the scoring with a free in front of the posts but Bray’s response was immediate with both Ben Mac Cormaic and Cathal Mac Aodh firing over excellent points. After these scores, Emmets settled into the game and stretched their lead with a goal with one of the best moves of the match. From a puck out, Daire Henderson won possession in the middle and sent in a low ball to Matt Thompson who fed the oncoming Cathal Mac Aodh who rifled it to the net. Bray were now beginning to dominate and pushed on with points from Lennon, Lohan and Ben Mac Cormaic. Another goal, this time Marc Lennon stealing in at the back post to finish, meant that at that the half-time break, Emmets were leading by 2-9 to 0-4.
In a display of focus and determination, Bray were out on the pitch early to resume the second half and started in a similar fashion with points from the Mac Cormaic brothers, Ben and Eoin. Captain Marc Lennon, now operating at full-forward, effectively ended the game as a contest when he raised another green flag, his second of the day, with another trademark finish. At this point, Emmets introduced a number of substitutes who all contributed to a fine win. Final Score: Bray Emmets 3-15 Glenealy 0-8.
Although the conditions meant it was a day for forwards, credit must go to the Bray defence which stood firm whenever called upon. The County Final against Carnew Emmets is fixed for Sunday, 17th November and we hope that once again, the players and management will be well supported as we look to retain our Minor Championship title.
Emmet Bhré: Dylan Terry, Donnchadh O Midheadh, Ryan Tynan, Shane Anders, Sean Maloney, Peter Conroy, Ishmael Mnensa, Eoin Mac Cormaic (0-3), Daire Henderson, Marc Lennon (2-1), Matt Thompson, Ben Mac Cormaic (0-8), Cathal Mac Aodh (1-1), Pauric Doyle, Shane Lohan (0-2)
Substitutes: Conor Doherty, Bill Moorehouse, Patrick Cunningham, Conor McNally, Daniel Kennedy, Michael Burton, Liam Morgan

Match Report: U-12 Camogie
On Saturday, 9th November, the U-12 Camogie team participated in the Gala Blitz run by Ballinteer St.Johns in Marlay Park. As well as the hosts, the girls were also scheduled to play against strong Dublin opposition in Kilmacud Crokes and Cuala. In the first game, Emmets faced the challenge of Kilmacud Crokes and after early scores from an energetic Laura Butler, the hard-working Shauna Ryan and Emma Doyle, Rachel Rice's excellent goals sealed victory for Bray in the second period. Next up was Cuala and again, players like Leah Carroll and Laura McGarry covered a lot of ground but second-half displays from Eleanor Carroll-Hayes and Sasha Ní Laoghaire also contributed to the Bray win. The final game against Ballinteer St.Johns again saw Bray dominate the opposition. Rachel Rice found the net several times while Sarah Lambe, Alannah Henry and Lauren Healy all produced noteworthy performances. Bhí na bainisteoirí thar a bheith sásta gur bhuaigh Emmet Bhré an comórtas seo.
Emmet Bhré U-12 :  Alannah Henry, Amy Butler, Amy Healy, Emma Doyle (3-0), Eleanor Carroll-Hayes (1-1), Eva Cullen, Laura Butler (1-0), Laura McGarry, Lauren Healy, Leah Carroll (1-1), Rachel Rice (8-1), Sarah Lambe (1-0), Sasha Ní Laoghaire, Shauna Ryan (0-1), Shauna O'Kelly, Síofra Ní Mhidigh.
