Tom Loftus RIP.
Monday, March 21, 2011
All associated with our club were very saddened to hear of the
death of Tom Loftus. Tom was a great worker for our
club when it was going through a lean spell in the 1980s.
He was involved in the GAA in Dublin for many years
and was elected Chairman of their County Board for a number of
years. He was also Chairman of Leinster Council from 1972 to 1974.
After retiring from his job in the ESB, Tom came to
live in Bray in 1981 and immediately got involved with our club and
the North East Wicklow Juvenile Board. He worked tirelessly for the
Emmet's to keep the club functioning and also promoting juvenile
games in the North East. Our club and the North East
Board were very fortunate to have a person with Tom's vast
experience to guide them. Our club provided a guard of honour at
the funeral on Wednesday 9th March.
Representatives of Central Council, Leinster
Council and Wicklow County Board were present. Many of
the past members of the North East Board were also there to say
goodbye to their former colleague. Also there were our
two Presidents, Jackie Napier and Tom Walsh. It was
fitting that Tom Walsh sang the 'West Awake' at the graveside for
his great friend. Our condolences to his daughter
Marie, sons Paul and Thómas and their extended family.
