A busy day in Bray Emmets
Monday, June 20, 2011
A wonderful day was had by all last Saturday at the first
Community Field Day in Bray Emmets. Great credit to Conor Johnson
and his hard working team. Despite the odd heavy rain shower there
was a great sense of community and a festive fairground atmosphere
at the front of the club house. The day, which was run in
association with the Bray Lakers and Bray Cancer Support Group, had
a great display of stalls selling cakes, books, ice creams and
candyfloss, plants and herbs - not to mention the delicious teas
being served. The wheel of fortune was a great success along with a
variety of live music and dance. The spud and spoon and sack races
caused great excitement as did the guest appearance of Mr Blobby
and his friends the rabbit and the clown.
There was a colourful display of art from a number of 1st class
students from the national schools in Bray in the club house. The
event was well attended and it was great to see some old faces from
the past paying a visit along with some new people.
The day concluded with the playing for the second year of Larry
Walsh Memorial Cup football match. Well done to all who played the
match and hopefully those of you who don't regularly show your
talents on the pitch are none the worse for wear! It was a high
scoring match with both men and ladies playing and Aisling Ní
hAnnaidh's team came out the winners. Mrs Ronnie Walsh, Larry's
wife, presented the cup to Aisling.
During the afternoon one of the club's main fundraising
activities took place also with the Auction. Big thank you to all
who donated wonderful items for the auction. There was a very good
turn out and good fun was had by all attending. Well done and
thanks to PJ and Gráinne and their team for organizing it and big
thanks also to everyone who attended and bought goods. Some
pictures are now on the website and can be viewed here.
