Under 12s Hurling

22 March, 2014

Bray Emmets Under 12s had their third game in the Dublin Grading League at Naomh Mearnog on Saturday. In a windswept Portmarnock, Bray playing with a very strong breeze were slow off the blocks and were struggling in most areas of the field. Brian however was on form scoring a number of long range points to ease Bray into the lead. The Bray backline were under pressure but sterling performances from Tadhg, Aaron, Ben, Eoin and Sebastain when introduced were repelling the dangerous Mernog forwards. The midfield of Peter, Zack and Luke got more into the game but the fluidity of recent games was not in evidence. The forward line of Daniel Flavin, Daniel Munro, Rory, Riain, Aodain and Philip finally got more into the game leading to an excellently worked goal by Brian. However Bray conceded a goal late in the half to be only 2 points up after playing with a breeze that was strengthening all the time.

There was a frank and honest discussion at half time and for the first time in this years league Bray were under pressure to perform against opponents that would have been buoyed by their first half performance.

What happened in the second half was exceptional with Bray playing the best hurling this group has played this year. The backline of Ben, Eoin, Tadhg, Aaron and Sebastain blocked, hooked, harried and bossed their opponents, what rare ball got past them was capably dealt with by Zack now playing in goal.

Sam now playing in midfield gave an exhibition of hurling in the second half ably assisted by a revitalised Peter where Bray got completely on top. Playing into the wind ensured that the ever dangerous Brian and Philip could run onto the ball and were able to set up a number of chances which the lethal full forward line of Rory and Daniel Flavin took. The hard work of Luke, Riain, Daniel Munro and Aodain ensured there was no way back for Naomh Mearnog with Bray, eventually, running out derserving winners.

It is said you get to know your team more in adversity than when you are comfortable in games and in the second half every player stood up and was counted with great support play and players working for each other. The team's approach play in the second half was the best we have seen this year from this group and the coaches were very proud of the second half performance. Special thanks to all our supporters who made the long journey out to Portmarnock. Our next match will be at home (hopefully!!) details to follow.
