Weather doesn't deter U11 hurlers

23 February, 2013

In very cold conditions Bray Emmets Under-11 Hurlers got their Dublin League campaign off to a winning start against St. Judes.
Following on from their fine display last week against Faughs, the team started really well and were dominant all over the pitch. The midfield of Sam Kearney and Sebastain Coleman were winning a lot of ball and feeding the forward line of Eoin Holmes, Ben Gorman, Brian Nesbitt and Cathal Eddy, causing all sort of problems for the St. Judes backline. Cathal was in inspired form in the first half scoring 3 goals with other scores coming from Brian, Sam and Sebastian. The best score was Sam's point which was scored from a 65.
With dominance up front the backline of Aaron O'Rourke, Philip Jakob, Tadhg McCarthy and Rory Mulcahy didn't have a lot to do but did it very well when they had to. Again the midfield and half forward were very fortunate to have laser like puck outs from Zack Collins to keep the pressure on the St Judes team.
It was always going to be difficult to keep a team like St Judes at bay for the whole game and some changes on their team resulted in a much improved performance. With the introduction of Hannah Surples, Ciaran Mangan, Daniel Munro, Riain MacMaolin and Aodain Daly, Bray continued their hard work with Hannah and Tadhg scoring to keep us well on top.
In a very cold day for hurling, this was a great start to the year and hopfully bodes well for the season, however the main emphasis is to keep improving and enjoying the game (hopefully in warmer weather).
