Kilmacud

1 April, 2009

Last Saturday we travelled the short distance to Kilmacud. It was agreed that each half would count as a separate match as we had previously lost a round of matches due to bad weather in February. Due to sickness the green team lined up one player short.

With a strong diagonal crosswind to their advantage and numerical superiority Kilmacud charged into the game with all guns blazing and would easily have been out of sight but for the heroics of our goalkeeper Jimmy Mason. Time and time again Jimmy denied the rampaging forwards and his efforts drew the very vocal compliments of many opposition mentors and supporters. Jimmy was ably assisted by his defence of Oisin Dougan, Mark Kenny and Oscar DeBurca who cleared the lines repeatedly. Kilmacud gave up trying for goals and opted for picking points, which they did well.

Our breaks were hampered by the wind as any attempts at high kicked passes were pulled away to the side. When we resorted to hand passing attacks we did split the Kilmacud defence wide open and our goal in this game came from a well-worked move by Fintan O'Shea to Owen Duffy to Ryan Hannon who calmly finished to the net. Tireless work from Phillip Redmond and Ronan Browne in the middle of the field kept the Kilmacud midfield in check for the game.

With the wind to our advantage in the second session Bray piled on the pressure and in a five minute purple patch we kicked 4 wonderful points from Fintan O'Shea, Owen Duffy (2) and Phillip Redmond that won the match for us. Kilmacud were restricted to a point from a free and another from a breakaway move.

Honours were shared on this occasion. Full credit to all our lads on a massive effort against a numerically superior team. Tireless running and good team play came to the fore in this match. Man of the match on this occasion was Jimmy Mason.
