Senior Footballers win by the narrowest of margins

24 July, 2012

Last Tuesday evening the Senior Footballers travelled to Annacurra in another round of the league (Div 1). On a warm evening with the rain holding off conditions were ideal for a good game which was fine preparation for the next round of the Championship on Friday next. Bray always knew that Annacurra are always going to be a tough test particularly on their home ground and so it proved. The game was played at a furious pace and despite Bray scoring first, with a point from Adam Conway, it was the home side that had the better start and replied with a goal & a point as a result of some slack marking from the visiting side. Niall Gaffney got things back on track for Bray with a "45" quickly followed up by a point from Niall McGraynor. Annacurra struck back with three points but after 28 minutes Niall Gaffney made a powerful run towards the opposition goal and unleashed a powerful ground shot that the Annacurra goalie could not hold to score a great goal and so the at the break the score was Annacurra 1-03 Emmet Bhré 1-04.

In the second half Bray played as a much tighter unit and really got into the game. There was no let up in the pace which was more akin to championship match rather than a league match.  Bray also made some personnel changes with Liam McGraynor Jr coming on for Oisin O'hAnnaidh, and Brian O'Keeffe for his brother John. Annacurra added another four points to their tally but Bray were getting stronger and replied with three points all from Niall Gaffney. Bray made another two changes with David Finn & Stephen McNicholas coming on for Ray Lambe & Des Kelly. For the last 10 minutes it was all Bray who added another three points - one each from Brian O'Keeffe, Niall Gaffney & the deciding score from John Henderson to clinch the game - final score Annacurra 1-08  Emmet Bhré 1-09.

Just a reminder that we play Arklow in round two of the SFC next Friday (3rd August) in Ashford, throw in at 7.45pm and its very important that we have as much support as possible to cheer on the team.
