Bray Emmets 1-11 – Holywood 1-12

5 July, 2008

The senior team were unlucky not  to come away with a share of the spoils last Saturday in Hollyhood. Playing in what can only be described as atrocious, wet and greasy conditions both teams served up a very competitive, evenly contested match. Playing with the wind in the first half Bray were slow to settle and were on the back foot for most of the first quarter, but they gradually worked their way into the match and deserved to be going in at half time level  at 1-6 a piece.

In the first half Hollywood was awarded a dubious goal after the ball ricocheted off the crossbar  and  was deemed to have gone over the line by the umpire. Bray had their own piece of good fortune when Johnny Kinch floated a fifty metre free into the square and into the net after the ball had skidded off the greasy ground.

In the second half Bray never got out of second gear and looked leaden-footed at times. Hollyhood was quicker and sharper to the breaking ball and Bray's indecisiveness and lack of discipline cost them the game.

The score of the match came ten minutes into the second half when Stephen Fox powered past four defenders and using his left foot hit an unstoppable  pile-driver over the bar. Others to shine for Bray were the young and exciting minor, Conor Power, who is growing in confidence with every match, the elusive and pacy Luke Benson, the sharp shooter Johnny Kinch and the tight marking defender Sean O Neill who made some telling  and decisive tackles during the match.
