Bray Emmets v Arklow Rocks

“Live to fight another day” is the best way to describe this one, Paddy Lee pointed a free with the last puck of the game, to keep our hopes alive in this year’s championship, so living on the edge is putting it mildly. While we started well enough in this game we couldn’t shake off the Arklow men, Paddy, Willie Keane, Liam Kenny and Brian Duggan all firing over points from play with at least of them being good goal chances, however it was TJ Byrne that fired the only goal of the first half for the rocks, and along with a few points, he was a constant thorn in the defence, Paddy Mellon fired over three 65’s which very much kept the Arklow men in contention, Darragh Maloney and Paddy pointed before half time, a 65 and a free to leave the score level 1.7 to 10 at the break.

The second was much the same, nip and tuck” and it was time for a few changes, Tim Devine and Liam Benville replaced Michael Walsh and Brian Duggan. We did manage to get our noses in front for a short while but a terrible mix up in our defence let Arklow in for another goal, we were now chasing the game and were guilty of some terrible bad shooting including from frees. Liam Kenny was getting fierce abuse at full forward and couldn’t get a free with several appeals being turned down, Ronan O’ Brien, Sean Maloney and Paul Barry were very busy and Arklow were awarded a free in front of our goal it was looking ominous, Matt Thomson and Conor Doherty came on for Cathal and Philip and Seanie moved out the field to try and get ball into our full forward line.

Willie Keane who was playing his heart out won possession and was fouled, Paddy pointed which left only a point in it going into injury time, it was now up to the referee as to what was to be added, and we needed to go in search of the equaliser, Karl Lacey who fought like a tiger won the ball gave it to Seanie who was pulled back, fouled free in, out on the wing, Paddy stepped up and pointed, this was our get out of jail card played, Manley blew the final whistle, 2.10 to 16 the final score. Replay next Sunday week in Aughrin before the senior game v St Pats.
